Massive Israeli Airstrike Hits Iran’s Nuclear Facilities

On Friday, June 13th, Israel carried out a wide-ranging aerial assault across Iran, targeting nuclear and military sites. Around 200 fighter jets hit over 100 locations, including the Natanz enrichment facility and military command centers.

Explosions were reported in Tehran, Natanz, Isfahan, Arak, Tabriz, and Kermanshah. Video from Tehran showed buildings on fire and emergency teams responding. Israel said it hit underground centrifuge halls and other critical nuclear infrastructure.

According to Iranian media, over 70 people were confirmed dead and more than 300 injured. Among those killed were top military commanders Hossein Salami, Mohammad Bagheri, and Gholamali Rashid, along with nuclear scientists Fereydoon Abbasi and Mohammad Tehranchi. Senior adviser Ali Shamkhani was reported to be critically injured.

In retaliation, Iran launched about 100 drones. Some were intercepted over Iraq and Jordan.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned of a “bitter and painful” response. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the attack was necessary to stop Iran from making a nuclear weapon, which he claimed could happen within days.

The International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed Natanz was hit but said radiation levels were normal. Director General Rafael Grossi called for restraint.

The United Nations urged all sides to avoid further escalation. Oman, France, and China expressed concern. The U.S. denied involvement, but former President Donald Trump said he was informed ahead of time.
