Andrew Cuomo earned the endorsement of Parent Leaders for Accelerated Curriculum and Education (PLACE NYC), an advocacy group that champions stronger academics in New York City public schools. The organization described his education plan as the most comprehensive among the mayoral candidates and praised his commitment to expanding learning opportunities for students across all boroughs.

Cuomo’s education agenda proposes broadening Gifted and Talented programs, protecting the Specialized High School Admissions Test (SHSAT), and doubling the number of Specialized High Schools from 9 to 18. His plan also includes providing greater support for students in underserved areas, implementing universal 3K, and developing new models to replace underperforming schools.

“Every parent knows education is the great equalizer,” Cuomo said in response to the endorsement. “Families deserve real opportunity, not empty rhetoric, and as mayor, I will make sure NYC schools once again become the ladder of opportunity for every child, in every borough.”

PLACE NYC leaders said Cuomo’s platform closely mirrors their goals for public education. Lisa Marks, co-president of PLACE NYC, said Cuomo’s education plan “aligns best with our advocacy” and reflects what many public school families are seeking. Deborah Kross, the group’s co-secretary, highlighted his “depth of knowledge in education policy” and described him as highly qualified to lead the nation’s most extensive school system.

The parent group noted that the next mayor will have significant influence over the future of the city’s education system, urging families to participate in the upcoming election. Voter registration remains open until October 25, with early voting scheduled from October 25 through November 2, and Election Day on November 4.
